Flow switches
Flow switches give an electrical signal when the flow in a line reaches a set value. They monitor cooling, lubrication and oil circuits and protect pumps against dry running. Choose by operating principle. Variable area flow switches use a float and a reed contact and need no supply voltage. They suit oil and water at pressures up to 350 bar (≈5080 psi); versions with flow indicator also show the flow on a scale.
Inline and insertion paddle flow switches use a paddle in the flow and also need no supply voltage. They suit water, coolants and thin oils, as inline switches for pipes up to G 1 1/2" or as insertion switches for pipes from DN 50.
Calorimetric flow switches for water-based liquids and thermal compressed air flow switches measure the flow with a heated sensor, show the value on a display and have adjustable switching outputs. They need a DC supply voltage.
For a flow reading on a scale as well as a signal, choose a metal variable area flow switch with flow indicator. Replacement reed contacts for the paddle switches are listed under flow accessories. The calorimetric and thermal switches and the variable area switches with indicator are also listed under flow meters.
